Before the first settlers arrived in the Avon area around 1874,
the Eagle River Valley was a summer hunting and fishing haven for
the Ute Indians. Elk, deer and buffalo were among the hunted animals
in the valley.
Early ranchers and farmers produced cattle, sheep, potatoes, peas,
lettuce, and cream. From the late 1880's through the turn of the
century, there were 10 passenger trains a day going through Avon.
Avon is often referred to as the commercial core of the Vail Valley.
It has boomed into a wonderful family community where people can
live, work and play in the "Heart of the Valley".

Gold panning and family fun! Venture over 1,000 feet into a Mountain!
